Understanding Sericulture

Rearing Steps
Sericulture involves producing silk by rearing silkworms for ~30 days, from egg to cocoon harvesting for silk filament. Silk rearing involves three key steps:
- Hatching high quality silkworm eggs
- Feeding worms quality mulberry leaves. They go though 5 instars (5 growth stages)
- Cocooning where worms filaments to create a protective cocoon around it
- The filaments are spinned or reeled to make fabrics
